Tourists Guide To Accra, Ghana

Accra is a metropolitan conglomeration and capital of Ghana. Once upon a time it was the capital of British Gold Coast during the colonial era. Accra has been transformed with great architectural buildings that range from apartment blocks, skyscrapers and 19th-century buildings. Myth had it that ‘Accra’ was gotten from the word nkran, which means ants. The reason for this name was because during the war with the Ashantis, the locals were always showing up like an army of ants.

Come to Accra and explore the creativity of Mother Nature that has left the city with amazing tourist centers. The numerous attraction sights have made Accra a gateway to Africa.

Attraction Centers

Ecotourism has become an amazing thing to explore in Accra. With the vast vegetation that has tropical forest, marine, and savanna, you have a lot of grounds to cover. TA visit to Tsokomey, can be one journey you may not want to miss. It is situated on the shore of Bojo beach, right at the mouth of Densu River.

Tsokomey has picturesque sand dunes, lagoons and mangrove stands. It is the home of snails and crabs. You can see the Solo Forest Monkey Sanctuary, where there are lots of monkeys and snakes.

A tourist haven that awaits you is Aburi. Aburi has become a rest house and a Sanatorium, built in the 19th century.  You will see an array of subtropical plants and trees, planted during the colonial era by the British naturalist.

The Osu Castle still tells its historic story. It was built in the 17th century. It was here that slaves were brought and shipped to other parts of the world.  Interestingly, you are not permitted to take pictures here.

There is the Artists Alliance Gallery, which is a massive gallery that  houses expensive sculptures paintings and fabrics. There are a lot of art works for you to see here. The Kane Kwei Carpentry Workshop , that is owned by Kane Kwei is legendary. Kwei designed these coffins according to what was said of the deceased.

Kotoka International Airport

Kotoka International Airport was initially called Ghana International, a huge airport that was named after Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka.

Car Rental

You can hire your car from Kotoko International airport. To avoid theft or challenges that arise from public transportation, car hire is recommended.

Best Time To Visit
