IBM 2018 Great Minds Initiative Internships For Students Worldwide

IBM is offerings students worldwide ‘Great Minds student internships,’ aimed at providing opportunities for them to work with world class scientist at any of IBM Research Labs in Johannesburg, Nairobi or Zurich.

It is for students from Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Europe. The internship begins in 2018 and the starting time and duration is what will be deliberated and agreed upon with the winners. This takes into account the availability of the IBM staff members and the winner’s academic commitments. This is the 10th time IBM is conducting this internship. The program will benefit faculty members, departments and even the university.

Benefits:

  • IBM takes the financial burden of ensuring that the winners travel with a lump sum and also ensures that their stay is comfortable in South Africa, Kenya or Switzerland respectively.
  • IBM encourages women who qualified to participate.

IBM will pay the winners a lump sum towards travel expenses as well as compensation that covers adequately the cost of living in Switzerland, Ireland, Kenya or South Africa, respectively. IBM especially likes to encourage qualified women to participate in this competition.

Eligibility:

 

The internship is for any full time student enrolled in a Master’s program in

 

  • Software Engineering,
  • Industrial Engineering or
  • Service Science
  • Computer Science,
  • Electrical Engineering,
  • Physics

 

 

At a certified or recognized university in Africa, Middle East, Central or Eastern Europe. It is expected that the students have a solid grip of the English language in both written and spoken form.

Nomination Process:

Participates should get a recommendation letter from a faculty member.

 

CV

Participants should submit their current CV and a short position paper that may be 1-2 pages

The CV should have:

Three research areas from a selected topics in the order of priority

Possible starting dates and duration of the internship -3-6 months

 

The CV should have personal information like email address, phone number, address, name, education, work experience, skills and graduation date.  Awards and recognition should be included if any.
