Five African players Who Scored The Most Premier League Goals

When we talk about goal scoring in the Premier League by Africans, one of the names that come up is Mo Salah, Mahrez and Mane. Interestingly, these three fascinating players did not even make it to our top five African players who scored the most PL goals.  The PL has given many Africans opportunity to become legends in the world.  With a good number of players who came from Africa to try their legs on the numerous stadiums in the United Kingdom, many of them never disappointed us.

Here is the list of players who have made history in the Premier League;

Nwankwo Kanu

Nwankwo Kanu, a Nigerian who played with Arsenal F.C., West Bromwich Albion F.C. and Portsmouth scored  a total of 54 goals before hanging his football boots.  The tall striker, who won the African Footballer of the Year awards in 1996 and 1999, spent six years playing for different clubs in the PL. He won two FA cups and two Premier League titles.

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure, an Ivory Coast International started with Manchester City in 2010, and has gone to win the Premier League titles and FA Cup twice respectively, with over 200 appearances for City.  Toure has scored 59 goals within the last seven years.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Yakubu Aiyegbeni, a Nigeria made his debut with Portsmouth in the 2003/04 season, scoring 95 goals throughout his stay in the league. He played for Middlesbrough F.C. in 2005, and made a huge impact in Boro where he netted 25 goals.  He joined Everton in 2007 before ending his PL career at Blackburn Rovers.  He ended his career with Coventry City F.C in 2017.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo striker, Emmanuel Adebayor was a force to reckon with in the PL during his reign. He played for Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and finally Crystal Palace. He spent ten years playing for these clubs and netting 97 goals. Adebayor ended his career with a lot of stunts, but he was a good player who didn’t miss the net often.

Didier Drogba

The name Didier Drogba will always ring a bell in PL.  He finished with 104 goals, and has been dubbed the greater striker for Africa to have played in the league.  He joined Chelsea in 2004 and went on to win the European club football.

Drogba was one of the few players from Africa who made an amazing career in the league. He still commands that respect of a legendary player wherever he makes his public appearance.
