There is no gainsaying that we have become Westernised by civilization. There were things we were happy with until we started copying from the developed world.
One of the things we embraced fully was cloth. While most Africans are living without a care in the world to come back to the African outfits, a movie has come out of Hollywood to inspire us to visit our root again.
Black Panther brings home our culture and has given us a good look at who we really are as Africans in the world. Wakandans helped us analyze the present and the past without enslavement and colonization. If we can make it in this movie, there is no stopping us in changing the way we live in Africa.
Dressing as Africans is one of the things the movie has inspired us. “One of the things that we really wanted to make sure about Wakanda is the technology, and I think that that’s something that all the fans want to see,” the film’s production designer, Hannah Beachler, told Black Girl Nerds.
“The other thing that we really talked about was keeping the tradition of several different African tribes. We really delved into what that was and how we mix this new and this old.”
One of the things that Black Panther has brought to our conscious Afrofuturism which is reowning and modernizing our way of life. Afrofuturism was a word that coined to talk about the African America sci-fi analysis. Today, it is inspiring us in other parts of our lives to do better than we have ever done before.
“Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, who played the character T’Challa, talks about the movie “He’s the ruler of a nation,” Boseman told CNET in a November interview. “And if he’s the ruler of a nation, he has to speak to his people. He has to galvanize his people. And there’s no way I could speak to my people, who have never been conquered by Europeans, with a European voice.”
In the movie, African fashion is sponsored to give us that assurance that our fashion sense is one in a million. Even the moviegoers went out of their ways to give us that touch of Africa with their dressings.
While the world go to the cinemas to watch this blockbuster movie, the attires that it has inspired in us cannot be overemphasized. We can tell you that the attires that we are seeing coming from the inspiration of the movie is mind blowing.
