Scholarship Description:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) offers this scholarship to students from Non-EU/EEA regions. Students considered are outstanding and exceptional in their students. They are offered a full-time master’s degree programme at the university.
School to Attend: Leiden University, The Netherlands.

Students applying can apply for all Masters programmes, except regular non-advanced LLM degrees in the following Faculties: Medicine/LUMC, Archaeology, Humanities, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Science, Interfacultair Centrum voor Lerarenopleiding, Onderwijsontwikkeling en Nascholing (ICLON), Social and Behavioural Sciences, African Studies Centre, International Institute for Asian Studies
Number of Awards:
The type and number of this scholarship solely depends on the faculty department budget that is available for students.
Target Students: Non-EU/EEA international students
Scholarship Duration/Value:
This special scholarship from Leiden University Excellence Scholarship offers 3 awards:
- € 10.000 of the tuition fee
- € 15.000 of the tuition fee
- Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee
Eligibility:
The international students applying must possessexcellent study results in their previous education. The course studied and degree awarded must be relevant to the Master’s programme for which they are applying.
The students applying have to be amongst the top 10% of graduates in their previous study programme. However, proof of ranking is not required – this information is purely to indicate the level of competitiveness.
Those applying for this scholarship must possess a non EEA internationl passport.
They must not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering).
Application instructions:
Student must apply online for their Masters programme admissions at Leiden University. When filling the online form, the student should indicate the reason they are applying for the scholarship alongside a letter of motivation. This should be done on the official LExS scholarship page.
Deadline: September is 1 February (exception – LLM Advanced Studies programmes: 1 March) while programmes starting in February has a deadline of 1 October.
